Terence Ogge

Editor of the de Groot Bulletin and Wills, Probate and Administration Practice (QLD)

For a period heading towards 20 years, Terence Ogge has been editor of the de Groot Bulletin and Wills, Probate and Administration Practice.

This work as editor and researcher happily combines two of his long-standing interests: the law and the English language. Thirty years ago, he completed a master’s thesis: the Language of the High Court of Australia – the law of wills. He has spent many hours writing about the practice and benefits of plain legal language and addressing lawyers and law students on the subject. Way back in the early 1980s, he was consulted by the Victorian Law Reform Commission for its plain language research.

The years of practice in estate law in three jurisdictions – Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria – have provided a valuable platform of breadth and experience in the estate area. He readily admits that each time he discovers a new insight among the multiple judgments that he reads each month, a spark yet again ignites his enthusiasm for the law and language.
